U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff said in a statement that he is praying for the family of the woman who died, for the health of the wounded and for the many people impacted by Wednesday’s violence in Midtown Atlanta.

“Today’s horrific attack at Northside Medical Midtown is an attack on all Georgians,” the Atlanta Democrat said in a statement.

Ossoff thanked the first responders who were working to bring the suspect into custody. And he joined fellow Democrats condemning another shooting.

“The level of gun violence in America today is unconscionable and unacceptable, and policymakers at all levels have a responsibility to ensure public safety and implement long-overdue reforms,” Ossoff said.

U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson said Congress should pass new gun control measures in hopes of preventing law enforcement and hospitals from responding to incidents like the one Wednesday.

“Gun violence is a senseless, overwhelming epidemic that continues to plague our communities,” Johnson, D-Lithonia, said in a statement. “We must pass meaningful gun safety reform to mitigate any other preventable losses to this epidemic.”
