BOSTON MARATHON
Violence does nothing
to advance one’s cause
This is a message in response to the Boston Marathon bombings, and is also directed to all would-be terrorists.
No cause, however just, justifies such actions. No cause, however valid, can ever be served by such actions. We, the American people, are a compassionate and tolerant people. Any fair historical analysis will surmise that America, more than any other country, has been a force for good in the world, bringing liberty and prosperity to peoples on an unprecedented scale.
But I guarantee you this: We cannot hear your pain, however valid, when the explosions of the Boston Marathon are ringing in our ears. We cannot see your needs, however real, when visions of planes filled with people flying into buildings fill our memories. Hear me loud and clear: No cause justifies such actions. No cause is ever served by such actions.

Don’t use terrorism
as excuse to criticize
Regarding, “With no one yet to blame, we’re at a loss for words” (Opinion, April 19), few despise George W. Bush more than I. Yet on Sept. 11, 2001, I stood with George W. Bush. I am an American first, and a partisan second. George W. Bush was then our president.
Charles Krauthammer has no such convictions. He has seen the Boston Marathon bombings as yet another opportunity to attack the president.
While Mr. Krauthammer is, of course, entitled to his opinion, he is not entitled to the megaphone of a newspaper column.
Please remove Mr. Krauthammer at your earliest opportunity.

COMMENTARY
Thanks for offering
balanced viewpoints
We are so quick to criticize the AJC. So, I’m telling you how I see that the balanced views published daily are truly balanced. For example, the recent columns by Kyle Wingfield — “Gruesome details argue for more limits, not fewer” (Opinion, April 18) — and Leonard Pitts (“Words may fail us, but we cannot fail one another,” Opinion, April 18) were very much worth reading.
I read things in the AJC that I wouldn’t otherwise know about. Mona Charen recently told us about Egyptian columnist Khalid Muntasir, who is brave enough to write a positive column praising Jewish billionaires and their $33 million grant for medical research (“Courageous Egyptian is lone voice against hatred,” Opinion, April 17).
My mornings are better with a second cup of coffee and my AJC!
