As the nun was rushed to the hospital north of Rome, Italy, she claimed she wasn’t pregnant, repeating "it's not possible, I'm a nun."

A few hours later the 31-year-old delivered a healthy baby boy she named Francesco, in a tribute to the Pope.

Another nun from the Campomoro convent near Rome told The Telegraph they were shocked.

“We noticed she had put on weight but recently she had kept to herself."

The nun hasn’t been named but workers confirmed she had been working recently at a home for the elderly near the convent.

Church officials believe the woman may have gotten pregnant last year when she visited her home nation of El Salvador.

The mother superior at the convent is Sister Erminia. She put it very simply, “it seems she was not able to resist temptation."

The church has decided the woman will be asked to "lead a secular life with her baby, away from religious institutions."

That doesn’t mean the church has turned their back on the nun. Both the diocese and the mayor of Rieti have offered assistance to the new mother as she transitions to her new life.
