A 5-year-old boy mistakenly taken by child protective services at school still asks questions about what happened that day.
Little Avante Washington was in class at Frost Lake Elementary in Minnesota when child protection services showed up. They told school officials they were there to pick up a child named Avante, but they left with the wrong boy, KMSP reports.
“They had him pack up all his stuff from school and go to another school to pick up an older boy,” said mom Rebecca Williams. “And the older boy said, ‘That’s not my brother.'”
Avante was out of school for 45 minutes before he was returned. His mother says her son still doesn’t understand what happened.
“I don’t wish anything bad on anybody I guess but they need to understand what they are doing and what damage they cause to other people’s lives,” said Rebecca.
St. Paul Public Schools said they are reviewing the procedures that resulted in the incident.
According reports, Ramsey County Child Protective Services did not acknowledge the case existed or that a mistake had been made.
