A woman lost her arm in an alligator attack while she was swimming in the Wekiva River Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Officials said her arm was torn off from the elbow down. She also suffered bites to her torso and back.

Seminole County Fire Rescue officials did not identify the woman but said she is between 30 and 37-years-old.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials said she was swimming in a busy area and tried to get to a more remote section when the alligator pulled her under.

She told rescue officials she felt her arm break off and doesn't know how many times she was pulled under the water.

A nearby canoer pulled her to safety and called 911.

Deputies, Seminole County Fire Rescue and Florida Fish and Wildlife officials responded to the scene at about 3:30 p.m.

The unidentified woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Trappers are attempting to capture the alligator.

No other details have been released.
