Health and other workers on the frontlines of the Ebola outbreaks in Sierra Leone will be treated with a trial vaccination, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wednesday.
About 6,000 volunteers will get doses of the trial of the rVSV-ZEBOV vaccine either immediately or in six months.

"We hope this vaccine will be proven effective but in the meantime we must continue doing everything necessary to stop this epidemic —find every case, isolate and treat, safely and respectfully bury the dead, and find every single contact," Tom Frieden, CDC director, said in a release.

After taking the vaccine, participants will be monitored for six months. The study compares rates of Ebola virus disease in those who are vaccinated and those who have yet to receive it.
The vaccine will be offered in heavily affected areas of Ebola outbreaks including Freetown, Western Area Rural District and Bombali.
