In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage, a Montana polygamist featured on the reality TV show "Sister Wives" has applied for a license to marry a second wife.
According to The Associated Press, Nathan Collier, 46, and his partners, Victoria and Christine, applied for the marriage license last week in Billings. Collier legally wed Victoria in 2000 and married Christine in a religious ceremony in 2007; however, his marriage to Christine is not legally recognized.
Officials at Yellowstone County Courthouse first denied Collier's application Tuesday but are reviewing the law with the county attorney.
"I think he deserves an answer," said Kevin Gillen, Yellowstone County chief civil litigator, adding that they plan to respond to Collier this week.
Collier, who was excommunicated from the Mormon church for polygamy, said he was inspired to apply for the license by Supreme Court's same-sex marriage ruling.
"It's about marriage equality," Collier said, according to the Washington Times. "You can't have this without polygamy."
