A South Carolina couple is behind bars after they forced their 14-year-old daughter to live in the woods outside of their house as punishment for eating a Pop-Tart without permission, police said.

According to USA Today, Crystal Lynn Driggers and James Allen Driggers were charged with unlawful neglect of a child for the incident.

Police say that the couple sent the 14-year-old to live in a tent in the woods on Friday night, located more than a quarter-mile from their house. According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department, the area is known for having wild hogs. The couple provided her with just a roll of toilet paper, a flashlight, a whistle, and a watch.

Police added that the girl was instructed to meet someone at the gate each day at a specific time in order to receive food and that she was left to fend for herself during the thunderstorms in the area on Thursday night.

The child is in the custody of the Department of Social Services now and the couple await a hearing.
