A gunman who used an assault rifle and a handgun opened fire inside an Orlando nightclub early Sunday before killing at least 50 and leaving 53 injured – some critically.
The gunman, who was killed by SWAT team members after a 3-hour standoff, opened fire on the more than 300 in the club around 2 a.m. Sunday.
With 50 dead, the shooting becomes the deadliest single-day mass shooting spree in American history. According to the Gun Violence Archive, since the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Ct. in 2012, there have been at least 998 mass shootings, with 1,105 people killed and 3,929 wounded.
