The husband of one of the courageous police officers who died in the Sept. 11 attacks has returned an award she was given because the same award was given to Caitlyn Jenner recently.
Moira Smith, a New York City police officer who was killed during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, was given Glamour's "Woman of the Year award, the "Today" show reported.
Smith was the only female police officer killed in the attacks.
She lead more than a hundred injured people from the World Trade Center before the towers collapsed, trapping her under the rubble, The Washington Post reported.
One month later, Smith was named the fashion magazine's "Woman of the Year."
Fourteen years later, Smith's husband James, wrote a letter to Glamour, posting it to Facebook, saying that awarding the same honor to Jenner this year was a "slap in the face."
"Was there no woman in America, or the rest of the world, more deserving than this man?" Smith, who is also a New York City police officer, asked.
Jenner was given the award on Nov. 9 as Glamour called her "The Trans Champion."
She announced her transition from Bruce to Caitlyn Jenner in June.
A spokeswoman told the New York Post, "We were proud to honor his (Smith's) wife ... in 2001, and we stand by our decision to honor Caitlyn Jenner."
