How much is your rent? 1BR in San Francisco: $3,460/month

Three cities in the San Francisco Bay area were in the top six most expensive rental markets for April 2015.

San Francisco came in first at $3,460 a month for the average one-bedroom apartment. San Jose tied for fourth place with Washington, DC., at $2,040 a month for a one-bedroom. And Oakland came in sixth at $2,000 a month.

San Francisco nudged out New York City, according to the Zumper National Rent Report for April 2015  - where one-bedroom apartments average $3,100 a month.

More popular and trending stories

Seattle ranked tenth in the list of most expensive 1BR rentals in April; Atlanta was No. 17; Austin came in at 20; Houston at 21.

Charlotte, NC tied with Virginia Beach, VA, at the bottom of the list of top 25 most expensive cities to rent a one-bedroom apartment.
