The term "Florida man" has become so synonymous with weird news stories that it has taken on a life of its own, including its own Twitter account.
The crazy, but true, "Florida man [insert odd happening here]" stories have become so popular across the internet that a Tampa craft brewing company has decided to use the viral phenomenon to create a new Florida Man beer.
Cigar City Brewing will only make a small batch of the special beer, 3,000 bottles at $9 each, and will only be available to certain Florida retail locations.
Founder of the brewing company, Joey Redner, described the India Pale Ale as "crazy hoppy," detailing it has "a bright citrusy hop character" with "hints of apricot, peach, orange, pine and lemon on a solid malt background."
"I just always thought it was funny all the shots Florida took on the chin for things that happen here," Redner commented, “I figured, if people are going to poke fun at you, you might as well embrace it."
Though the Florida Man beer was created last year, this is the first time the company will be bottling it.
If the beer proves popular, Cigar City Brewing will consider making more and selling it outside of the state.
The picture on the beer matches that of the Florida Man Twitter avatar and is actually Indiana man Ricky Lee Kalichun, who was arrested in 2011 after drawing on his own face in sharpie and attacking someone with a sword.
Though the company decided to ditch the mug shot's sharpie marks in favor of some black aviator sunglasses.
Redner admits he didn't ask Kalichun for his permission to use the photo but hopes he'll "embrace the humor."
The founder also added that his favorite "Florida man" story is about the man the buried his cat thinking it was dead, only for the "zombie" cat to dig his way out and return to a neighbor's home.
"Florida man" has been dubbed in the past as "Twitter's worst superhero ever."
There is no yet definitive date on when the new beer will be available for purchase.
