Deputy shot, wounded, suspect is fired TSA worker

April 17, 2015

A Louisiana sheriff's deputy is recovering after being shot three times while directing traffic in a school zone.

And according to CBS News, the suspect is a fired Transportation Security Administration employee.

Police said Cpl. Burt Hazeltine was in his car, using it to control traffic near a school, when a driver, identified as John Devillier became angry and argued with Hazeltine, WWLTV reported.

Devillier, who was in the area for a family event, became so upset according to WWLTV called the sheriff's office to complain about Hazeltine.  The person who answered Devillier's call claimed he identified himself as a Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS, agent, WWLTV reported.
He was, in fact, a former TSA employee, CBS News reported.
Devillier left the scene, but returned shortly after, and started yelling at Hazeltine.  The deputy then left his vehicle, and noticed a gun on the dashboard of Devillier's car.  WGNO reported that Devillier dangled the firearm out of the window, in a move that appeared to be a surrender, but instead opened fire with a second gun he had in the car.

Devillier hit Hazeltine in the eye, chest and elbow, WGNO reported.

Devillier was fired from the TSA in 2013 for what WGNO reported as bad behavior and was previously arrested for assault and domestic battery in Mississippi.
