It’s one of the most frightening things you can imagine, watching an out-of-control wildfire sweep across the land you call home. Yet, that’s what thousands did as fire ravaged east Tennessee and northern Georgia, hitting the Tennessee resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge hard.

Fires reached their pinnacle on Monday, and since then a beneficial rain has passed over the area, aiding firefighters in their efforts. And while some business owners have been allowed to return to assess damages, residents are still prohibited from the area as there is concern fires could re-ignite overnight.

Rare Country is saddened to learn that now at least three people have died in the fire in separate incidents. Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller tells CNN that they have not been able to access all areas affected by the fire, so additional injuries or deaths are unknown.

A handful of stars actually grew up in that area, including Kenny Chesney, Kelsea Ballerini, Rodney Atkins, Ashley Monroe and Dave Barnes and Nashville’s country music community and residents who often vacation in the area are heartbroken by the devastation. Many are expressing their thoughts and prayers on social media as they watch the news coverage unfold.
