103-year-old woman banned from church after 92 years as member

A 103-year-old Georgia woman reportedly has been banned from the church she joined 92 years ago.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Genora Hamm Biggs received a letter Aug. 2 from Elberton's Union Grove Baptist Church that revoked her membership and said she was no longer welcome on the church's property "for any reason whatsoever." Her grandson, Eliott Dye, and Kevin Hamm said they also were banned.

Despite the letter, Biggs attended church the following Sunday. A member called police, who reportedly declined to respond because the incident was a "civil matter." The service was then dismissed, the Banner-Herald reports.

"We are Baptists, and that's what we want to stay," she told the Banner-Herald.

Mattox did not return the Banner-Herald's calls seeking comment, but Deacon Glen Jackson called the situation "a bunch of foolishness" and said Biggs' longtime membership "don't mean nothing."
