A man who pointed a shotgun at Forsyth County deputies Thursday has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault against as peace officer.

Authorities said that deputies went to a house in northeast Forsyth around 1:30 p.m. regarding a hostile person with a firearm. They saw Kenneth Mercer with a shotgun outside his home. He pointed the gun at deputies and did not put the weapon down despite warnings to do so. Deputies secured the area and evacuated residences in the area.

Mercer, 50, had fired a weapon but did not shoot at deputies, the Forsyth County sheriff’s office said.

SWAT members took Mercer into custody without incident, then took him to a local hospital. He was later transported to the Forsyth County Detention Center.
