Woman accused of impersonating nurse to steal from assisted living center

Police say the woman pretended to be a nurse at an assisted living facility.

She acted like she belonged there.

That’s how Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies say a woman was able to steal from nurses in an assisted living facility.

After donning scrubs and walking into the Oaks at Towne Lake, a woman dressed as a nurse and pretended to be part of the team, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The facility is located on Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock.

"That's kind of what she did here,” Cherokee County sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Marianne Kelley said. “She just walked into the assisted living center and signed in under a false name and false business.”

Detectives said the woman found a break room where staff kept their personal items and stole cash and credit cards from purses, according to the news station.

She didn’t get caught because she didn’t arouse suspicion by entering patients’ rooms, Kelley said.

"She was dressed in scrubs so she would fit in," Kelley said.

Later, detectives found a surveillance photo from a local department store where the suspect allegedly used one of the stolen bank cards.

Detectives believe the Oaks wasn’t the only facility the suspect targeted.

Authorities in Cobb County are investigating a similar incident.
