The American Diabetes Association's signature event, "Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes," is scheduled for Saturday at Grant Park, 840 Cherokee Ave. Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 8:30 a.m. City employees and residents are invited. The city’s team is co-captained by City Council members Michael Julian Bond and Joyce M. Sheperd.
It is estimated that 10 percent of Georgians have been diagnosed with diabetes, and that the disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the state.
