Cumming voters Tuesday picked businessman Chuck Welch to fill the remainder of the unexpired term for Cumming City Council Post 1.

Welch, senior vice president at Community Business Bank, received 117 of 391 votes cast and led a four-person field to capture the remainder of former council member Rupert Sexton’s term. The city’s website said Welch will be sworn into office July 21 and will serve until the end of 2017.

Former Forsyth County Commissioner Linda Ledbetter finished second in Tuesday’s balloting, and Julie Tressler and Roger Crow tied for third. The county’s elections board is scheduled to certify the results Friday.
