The Henry County Zoning Advisory Board voted at its Jan. 9 regular meeting to approve variance for 16.48 acres of property at 230 Riverbend Drive in McDonough.

The request was for an accessory structure on the property, which normally under the county’s code cannot be more than 50 percent of the size of the principal dwelling in an RA (residential-agricultural) zoning district. In this case the barn, at more than 1,400 square feet, is nearly the size of the house on the property.

Approval of the variance included conditions that it apply only to that structure, that the barn’s size cannot be increased, and that landscaping be installed so it is not visible from the road.
