Union City police department’s K9 officer, Pluto, who died last year, was recently honored at the annual K9 Down Memorial Service.
Master Patrol Officer James Messer, who’s also a K9 handler, represented the Union City police department at the event in Porterdale, sponsored by the non-profit organization, We Ride to Provide. Pluto died from medical complications during a training event.
The Union City police department has a new K9. Riko, a Belgian malinois is trained in apprehension, tracking, searching, handler protection and narcotic detection. He recently assisted in a major drug bust.
