If there are old prescription bottles lingering in your medicine cabinet, the Roswell Police Department wants to help you get rid of it all.

The city’s police is partnering with the DEA and the Keep Roswell Beautiful program to collect potentially dangerous, expired and unwanted prescription drugs Oct. 22 at the Roswell Recycling Center in Alpharetta. All three agencies will collect the expired prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free and anonymous. The prescription drug take-backs are conducted nationally by health and law enforcement agencies to curb accidental overdosing and potential drug abuse.

Although prescription medications are generally used in a responsible way, an estimated 52 million people have used prescription drugs for non-medical reason, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Contact Officer Lisa Holland at 770-640-4422 or visit the DEA’s website for more information.

Here's how to get rid of them safely.
