Three teenage girls were injured — two of them critically — when they were hit by a car early Tuesday while walking along a Douglas County road, authorities said.

The girls, ranging in age from 13 to 15, were hit around 1:30 a.m. on Maxham Road near Lithia Springs, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The GSP said in an e-mail Tuesday afternoon that Kendra Taylor was in critical condition with head trauma at Grady Memorial Hospital, while Shania Willis was at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, also in critical condition with head trauma. Their exact ages were not available.

The third girl, 13-year-old Carleece Brown, was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite for treatment of a broken ankle, according to the GSP.

The driver of the car, 22-year-old Crystal Marshall of Chicago, was arrested and charged with serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence, driving too fast for conditions, having slick tires and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. She was taken to the Douglas County Jail and was being held without bond Tuesday afternoon.

“Witnesses told the trooper the girls were walking in the travel lane at the time of the crash,” a GSP spokesman said. “One of the girls told the trooper they were going to a nearby store.”
