A third Marietta Learning Commons approved

A Learning Commons at Marietta Center for Advanced Academics was approved Nov. 13 by the Marietta City Schools Board of Education.

The nearly $56,723 contract was awarded to Russell Ventures.

In September 2017, the MCS Board of Education approved funds to support the transformation of media centers into “Learning Commons” at two elementary schools - Dunleith and Sawyer Road.

Then in June, the board was presented with an update of the completed Learning Commons projects and decided the district would continue to support this transformation process in the 2018-19 school year.

Three elementary schools - Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA), Hickory Hills and Lockheed - were selected to work with MCS personnel, their school communities and design consultants to create Learning Commons at their schools during the 2018-19 school year.

At MCAA, the Media Center remodel will involve painting walls and trim, installing carpet and removing the circulation desk, stairs, bookshelves and several columns.
