A reader wants to know why newly-installed street lights are no longer working and how soon they can be fixed to make a dangerous situation safer.

“The beautiful new street lights installed last year on Buford Highway up to the Cheshire Bridge Road and Buford Highway intersection suddenly go dark just as you enter Fulton County. These lights were a great help as that intersection is quite dangerous and even more so with no lighting around them,” the reader wrote.

We sent the item to the DOT and will keep you updated.

Last week, we told you about a commuter’s concern over driving through the heart of the city at night and being frustrated with paving efforts.

“My normal 25 minute drive in the evening (9 p.m.) from the airport to Lenox area took two hours last week. The culprit? Repaving on the connector, of course. All lanes down to … one lane. Seriously,” he wrote.

Parnell wants to know why the DOT is repaving that section of the road.

“The condition of the road is excellent, very little wear and no potholes.

We got a quick response back from the department.

“Our contractors are resurfacing the Downtown Connector so far south because the project limits for the Downtown Connector resurfacing project are approximately six miles from University Avenue to the Brookwood interchange. We understand the inconvenience of nighttime work. We appreciate your patience while we work to build a better Georgia,” wrote DOT communications officer Annalysce Baker.
