At the city’s most recent council meeting, The Suwanee City Council approved a plan to take 16 rifles and 5 shotguns issued to the Suwanee Police Department and declare them as surplus. According to the police department, the weapons are 15 years old and in need of replacement. The Bushmaster A-2 rifles and Remington 870 shotguns will be traded in for newer models.
The Suwanee Police Department provides patrol, investigations, and support services within city limits and has mutual aid agreements with nearby police departments for other services like K9, SWAT and other specialized services. According to their website, Suwanee police “currently handles approximately 82,000 calls for service per year.”
