Sugar Hill Mayor Steve Edwards recently presented the American Cancer Society a donation of $4,187 for cancer research. The donation was made possible thanks to proceeds from the Players Guild at Sugar Hill performances.

Earlier this fall, the group staged a production of Calendar Girls, based on the true story of Women’s Institute members who proposed to raise funds for cancer research through a nude calendar. In keeping with the original story, the Sugar Hill cast and crew produced and sold a calendar as well as donated a portion of ticket proceeds from performances.

The Players Guild at Sugar Hill’s next performance will be “Up, Up and Away,” a historical re-creation of a live radio show as it would have been performed in the 1930s and 40s. Look for this event Jan. 31 through Feb. 9 at The Eagle Theatre, 5029 W. Broad St.
