Young People Matter, which runs the first emergency shelter for runaways and homeless youth in DeKalb and surrounding counties, is asking for volunteers to help with services.

The shelter recently won a three-year federal grant of $540,000 for its operations. Volunteers are needed to help with office work, outreach and social media.

The facility – which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week – also provides food, health screenings, education assistance and counseling for children DeKalb, Rockdale and Newton counties.
