A new public works building in Stockbridge will be constructed near the current facility.

The Stockbridge City Council voted at its Jan. 31 workshop meeting to authorize bids for a public works facility costing up to $3 million.

The new building will be located near the current facility on Taylor Drive, just off East Atlanta Road across from Gardner Park. Plans for the project have already been completed and funding is available in the city’s SPLOST budget, according to a staff report. Officials state that the project should be completed in 12-18 months.

The council also accepted a $237,017 bid for replacement of the city’s central line water main, also a SPLOST-funded project. That cost includes money for “30 days of traffic control” while the work takes place, according to city documents. The exact timetable for the project has not yet been determined.
