Two bills recently passed and signed into law that could lead to the creation of a new city in Henry County now face a constitutional challenge.
Stockbridge officials announced May 17 at a press conference that a lawsuit had already been filed in Henry County Superior Court and a federal civil rights lawsuit would be coming in a few weeks. Legislation allowing for a referendum that could create a separate city in the Eagle’s Landing area passed the General Assembly earlier this year.
Stockbridge leaders opposed the measure because it would de-annex a portion of their city and place that land in the new city, something that has never been done in Georgia.
