Douglas County residents are asked to provide their comments and project ideas for a possible new one-cent sales tax renewal.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is considering calling for a referendum in the Nov. 8 General Election for a one-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for capital improvements and construction projects.

If called and approved by the voters, the SPLOST would cover six years, beginning April 2017, and bring in an estimated $160 million.

The board is asking for input and project ideas from the community during the following meetings, all beginning at 6 p.m.:

  • April 19, Hawthorne Center, Jesse Davis Park at Brown and Malone Streets, Douglasville
  • April 21, Ephesus Baptist Church, 8437 Ephesus Church Road, Villa Rica
  • May 9, Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 4283 Chapel Hill Road, Douglasville
  • May 12, Old Douglas County Courthouse, 6754 West Broad St., Douglasville
  • June 7, Dog River Library, 6100 Highway 5, Douglasville

Residents also may email their project ideas to SPLOST@co.douglas.ga.us.
