The Snellville City Council recently approved amendments to the zoning ordinance related to the sale of consumer fireworks. The changes define consumer fireworks as those that comply with the construction, chemical composition, and labeling regulations of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the United States Department of Transportation, and the American Pyrotechnics Association, including Roman candles.

The amendments also clarify consumer fireworks retail sales facilities versus retail sales stands. Using National Fire Protection Agency guidelines, the city also indicate sales facilities may not include a tent, canopy, or membrane structure. Sales stands have the same meaning as those provided by the NFPA.

Snellville’s amendments also require anyone planning to temporarily sell fireworks at a specified, fixed location must meet all requirements for a temporary use permit.
