Fearing trouble might break out at a high school basketball game Tuesday night, Atlanta school officials required that students come with a parent if they wanted to attend, Channel 2 Action News reported exclusively.
The requirement was put in place for the matchup between Benjamin E. Mays and Carver high schools.
Last October at a football game between the two schools at Lakewood Stadium, a fight led to shots being fired and a Mays student being shot by Atlanta police.
Safety concerns apparently increased in the wake of social media postings prior to Tuesday’s basketball game. Channel 2 reported there were threatening posts linked to cheerleaders from both schools.
Extra security was put in place for the game, including mandatory walk-through metal detectors.
No trouble was reported.
