With the county manager set to depart in less than two months, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is getting a better handle on the process and timeline for picking a replacement.
Commissioners heard about it in a special called meeting late last week. Stephen Egan, senior vice president of recruitment firm The Mercer Group, outlined what’s typically a four-month-process which starts with developing a position profile and search game plan. Applicants would be evaluated and screened in month two with individual interviewing following and selection of semi-finalists in month three. Final candidates would be interviewed and the pick made in month four.
As part of working up a position profile that goes to candidates, individual interviews will be done with commission members, county staff and elected and constitutional officials to talk about expectations and perceptions. Those interviews are set to begin next week.
Current manager Doug Derrer plans to retire April 2 after a 40-year public service career.
