Decatur’s school board voted last month to ask city commissioners to put an $82.47 million General Obligation Bond referendum on the November ballot. But during a Monday night presentation before city commissioners, Superintendent Phyllis Edwards said the school system is now reconsidering that figure.
She told commissioners the board is also looking at a $75 million bond or $60 million bond. Even though his board approved $82.47 million, the precise amount is a “work in progress” and can change any time before May 17, when commissioners will vote whether to put it on the ballot, added Chairman Garrett Goebel.
“We clearly understand the impact [the bond would have] on taxpayers,” Goebel said. “We need to hear back from the city and from the community before settling on a final bond amount.”
