The Fayette County school system is gearing up to expand its wireless network to handle greater student demand. Technology Director Sharon Lunceford outlined a multiphase plan to the Board of Education on Feb. 17, explaining that the increased use of tablets and other mobile devices requires more capacity at all schools.
The system has already received a $740,985 state grant toward the overall project, expected to cost nearly $2.4 million using ESPLOST funds. Lunceford said the upgrades would take about four months to install.
A more detailed schedule will be presented to the board before it formally votes on the project.
