The Sandy Springs City Council recently voted to buy less than a half acre of land to ensure it’s in place for a future road-widening project.

City officials said that while actual improvement of the corridor was some time away, they felt it prudent to purchase the .4 acre property at 590 Hammond Drive for $375,000 now, before it’s redeveloped.

Widening of Hammond from Roswell Road to Barfield Road has been under discussion since 2005, and the city has a $500,000 congressional earmark for the project. No timeline’s been set for construction, however.
