After years of planning and preparation, the city of Roswell will officially break ground Monday for the reconstruction of the intersection of Oxbo Road and Atlanta Street (Ga. 9) in the historic downtown area.

The public is invited to the ceremony, which begins at noon at 685 Atlanta St. Actual construction starts in February and is to be completed in July, 2021. The $11.8 million project will be paid for by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by voters in November, 2016. Information: https://bit.ly/2sS9uWF

Oxbo Road and Oxbo Drive will be realigned to eliminate a staggered intersection with Atlanta, and to convert Oxbo Drive into a two-way street between Atlanta and Mimosa Boulevard, according to a city announcement.

Plans also call for new turning lanes, a new traffic signal, and an extension of Elm Street from its present terminus at Maple Street to the intersection of Oxbo Road and Pleasant Hill Street. Pleasant Hill will become two ways between Oxbo and Oak Street.

“Drivers can expect to see temporary road closures and detours during active construction,” the city said. “Roswell will alert the public to any such closures before they occur via press release and social media.”
