A substantial private school development for students with reading-related challenges won approval from the Roswell City Council Monday night, as council members unanimously approved allowing The Swift School to develop an 18-acre tract east of Old Alabama Road at Market Boulevard.

City staffers had recommended denial because it didn’t square with the city”s comprehensive plan, but the planning commission earlier approved the project with two dozen conditions attached, including provisions designed to limit lighting and noise problems for the nearby Martin’s Landing neighborhood and restricting use of school athletic facilities by outside groups.

The maximum 700-student middle and high-school campus will be targeted to students with dyslexia and related learning disabilities and will be built in phases over the next 20 to 30 years.
