A Moreland Avenue fast-food restaurant is battling a rodent problem, possibly due to a car smashing into the building, leaving the unwanted critters a place to enter.

The Fulton County health department got a complaint about mice in the Krystal restaurant on May 27, the deputy director told Channel 2 Action News. An inspector went to the Krystal the same day and returned for a follow-up inspection Friday, Ellis Jones with the health department said.

“They did find some evidence of rat feces, glue traps,” Jones said. “They’ve been working with Orkin and they have the documentation where Orkin has come out six times in the last three weeks.”

In cell phone videos obtained by Channel 2, a mouse is seen running on the floor of the restaurant. In another video, recorded in late May, a mouse can be seen running on the fountain drink machine.

The Krystal Company said the restaurant took immediate action and is working diligently to correct the problem with the help of professional exterminators. Health inspectors returned to the restaurant Monday, and the restaurant scored a 97, the company said.

“We are and remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and operations in our restaurants,” the company said in an email Thursday to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
