By a 3-2 vote, the Powder Springs City Council decided Oct. 21 to keep Pam Conner as the city manager.

At the close of the meeting, Mayor Al Thurman said, since he has been on the City Council since 2002, “We’ve gone through several city managers, and it’s been a nightmare.”

Thurman said the city is fortunate to have Conner as the city manager who will receive a base annual salary of nearly $116,441.

Still, Conner, whose contract will expire on Nov. 11, “will have a job performance review, and the Council will be involved with that,” Thurman said.

Council members in favor of Conner were Patrick Bordelon, Doris Dawkins and Henry Lust.

Opposed to Conner’s contract were Councilwomen Nancy Farmer and Patricia Wisdom.

Farmer read a statement, alleging the decision was being made “in a rush” since the Council members had not received the paperwork until five days ago.

Also, Farmer objected to giving Conner a four-year contract instead of the present two-year contract, giving her unlimited car mileage within Cobb County and giving her more for her healthcare and her retirement.

Wisdom added, “It’s being rushed and pushed through.”

City Clerk Kelly Axt said, “Thank you for renewing Pam’s contract. No one (of the city’s leadership team speaking in support of Conner) is here out of anxiety but out of support and enthusiasm for the future.”
