Instead of meeting in the Council Chambers, Powder Springs Mayor Patricia Vaughn and the City Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday for their work session and 7 p.m. for their voting meeting in the city’s Municipal Court Building, 4483 Pineview Drive.

The chambers have been under renovation to update the audio-visual equipment and make the facility handicap accessible.

Vaughn said she and the council members will plan to be trained on the new equipment during the 5 p.m. Feb. 11 agenda meeting before meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Council Chambers, Community Development Building, 4488 Pineview Drive.

Council members voted in August to pay $214,285 to Lovvorn Construction to repair, renovate and upgrade the chambers, then in October $96,365 on audio-visual equipment from Unified AV System.

Opposed to the second expense, Councilwoman Nancy Hudson said spending this much SPLOST money was “overkill” and “a waste.”

Vaughn responded there have been many complaints from people not able to hear city council proceedings.
