The Powder Springs City Council voted Monday to increase monthly fees for adding a recycling service by Waste Industries.

City residents will pay $20 each month instead of $18.50, while the fee for those outside the city will increase from $20.50 to $22, City Manager Brad Hulsey said.

Senior citizens, ages 65 and up, will be charged $10 monthly instead of $9.25 - only those living in the city and only those who sign up at City Hall, 4484 Marietta St., Hulsey added.

The 65-gallon recycling carts will be delivered by Dec. 6 with recycling to start Dec. 10.

Even if they choose not to use the city’s recycling service, residents still need to pay the increased rates.

Opt-out is offered for owners of unoccupied properties by city application, also at City Hall.
