The fired Powder Springs Police Chief, L. Rick Richardson, dropped his appeal of his Feb. 9 firing at the last minute before an appeals hearing was set to begin Wednesday morning. No reason was given.
Richardson was fired by City Manager Rick Eckert over the direct sale of at least two city vehicles to other agencies at bargin-basement prices instead of selling the vehicles at a public auction as ordered by the City Council.
The City Council then went into a 4-hour executive session that lasted until shortly after 1 p.m. Mayor Pat Vaughn said that the closed meeting was to discuss possible litigation. No council action was taken.
