As Peachtree Corners’ Town Center moves toward completion, the conversation about a pedestrian bridge over State Route 141/Peachtree Parkway continues. City officials have set aside approximately $4 million for the bridge which will connect the Forum shopping center area to the new Town Center. Funding will come from SPLOST.

A study released earlier this year determined a bridge is needed due to traffic volume traversing the city’s busiest thoroughfare along with anticipated activities and shared parking between the two commercial areas. The study also evaluated solving the problem of pedestrian traffic with a tunnel versus a bridge. According to the study, pedestrian safety, sociability, functionality and maintenance were all solved better by a bridge. The city also sees the bridge as an opportunity for branding and place making.

Peachtree Corners’ mayor and council will be voting on the next fiscal year’s budget at 7 p.m. June 26 at City Hall, 310 Technology Parkway. If the council approves, design of the bridge will be advanced and final concept drawings developed.
