Peachtree City’s fire department is already gearing up for its 50th anniversary next year.

At the Nov. 19 City Council meeting, Chief Joe O’Conor outlined preliminary plans for a small memorial park and the refurbishment of the city’s 1949 fire truck. Funded by donations, the department wants to use property on Paschall Road, near the site of the city’s original fire station, for a park in honor of former fire chief Gerald Reed, Jr., who died in 2000.

O’Conor also hopes to get the truck’s brake system fixed so it can be driven in the July 4th parade.
