Neighborhood parks will be constructed on Hopkins Road and Lancer Drive in Powder Springs.

A nearly $247,821 contract was awarded to Integrated Construction and Nobility Inc. by the Powder Springs City Council on March 18.

The vote was 3-0-2 with Councilwomen Doris Dawkins, Nancy Farmer and Patricia Wisdom in favor and Councilmen Patrick Bordelon and Henry Lust absent.

However, Lancer Drive resident Jane Law appealed to the Council to consider safety, lighting and additional patrols.

She said she is concerned that the new parks may draw more crime.

Funding will come from the 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
