Parking regulations in downtown Hampton may be changing in the next month or two.
The City Council voted at its July 9 regular meeting to approve the first reading of an ordinance that would prohibit overnight parking between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. on East Main Street; James Street; Cherry Street; Tom Eason Drive; and Barnett Street. The restriction would also apply to the parking lot of any city-owned or city-operated property. The new regulations would not apply to residents of the downtown district.
The vote to approve the first reading of the ordinance was unanimous. The second reading will likely be heard at the council’s August meeting.
