The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Lanier announced open houses to update the public on the results of a Recreation Capacity Study and Master Plan Update.

Each open house is scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m., with Corps experts on hand to brief the public: Monday, Feb. 24, Kilough Elementary School, 1063 Kilough Church Road, Dawsonville; Tuesday, Feb. 25, Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road, Gainesville; Wednesday, Feb. 26, Central Park Banquet Room, 2300 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming; and Thursday, Feb. 27, Lake Sidney Lanier Project Management Office, 1050 Buford Dam Road, Buford.

The current, 1987 master plan needs revision due to changes in regional land use, population, outdoor recreation trends and Corps policy, the Corps said.

Key topics to be addressed include “revised land classifications, new natural and recreational resource management objectives, recreation facility needs, and special topics such as invasive species management and threatened and endangered species habitat.”
