City proposes 0.5-mill cut in millage rate

Roswell is proposing a significant reduction of 0.500 mills in its property tax millage rate for the 2019 fiscal year, resulting in a rate of 4.955 mills – among the lowest in metro Atlanta, city officials say.

Public hearings on the rate are set for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13; 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, and 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in the Council Chambers at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St.

The city’s proposed millage includes 4.705 mils for maintenance and operations and 0.250 mills for debt service. Each mill represents $1 of tax assessment per $1,000 of assessed property value.

The millage is down from 5.455 mills last year – a rate that had remained unchanged since the 2009 fiscal year, city officials said. Information: https://bit.ly/2vrWe8e

Woodstock

City announces tax hike, millage rate hearings

Woodstock has announced a millage rate of 6.808 mills for the 2018 fiscal year, resulting in a 2.45-percent increase in property taxes.

Public hearings on the tax increase are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, and 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in the Chambers at City Center, 8534 Main St. The City Council is expected to vote on the millage rate at the Aug. 27 meeting.

Without the tentative tax increase, the millage rate would be no more than 6.645 mills, city officials said.

The increase will mean about $4.89 in additional taxes for a home with a fair market value of $75,000, or roughly $6.52 for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $100,000, officials said.

Sandy Springs

Atlanta Kosher BBQ Festival moving

The sixth edition of the Atlanta Kosher BBQ Festival is moving to Sandy Springs from Dunwoody this fall, celebrating brisket, ribs, chicken and a new competition category, chili, at the City Springs downtown redevelopment.

Presented by The Hebrew Order of David International, the Atlanta Jewish Times and Balloons Over Atlanta, the festival goes from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, on the City Green at City Springs, 1 Galambos Way. The Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF) is the main charitable beneficiary.

About 3,000 people are expected for the food, music, vendors, exhibits and children’s activities. A panel of local barbecue experts will judge teams entered in a Kosher BBQ Competition.

Tasting tickets are $1 apiece, sold in $20 and $50 lots.

“We’re really excited about our new City Springs location,” said Jody Pollack, executive director of the festival. “It’s a beautiful location, and we hope it will bring out people who love kosher BBQ and want to check out Sandy Springs’ new downtown.”
